For the fourth year in a row, RACS’ Live Healthy Rockbridge Kids coalition will receive financial support from the Carilion Stonewall Jackson Community Health Foundation for the 2018-19 year. The $4,700 grant will help bring the Veggie Brigade to seven area elementary schools again next year and also to present the “Fruit and Vegetable” curriculum at summer camps this summer. In addition, the grant will help increase local capabilities by providing a Virginia Foundation for Health Youth training in Lexington.
Annie LePere, the Healthy Community Action Team Coordinator at RACS, says the much-needed dollars will make a difference in outcomes by supporting evidence-based programming with a successful track record. “We really appreciate the support from Carilion,” she comments. “Kids think these nutritional programs are really fun, so they get engaged and remember what they learn. That creates awareness that they take with them into their teenage years and adulthood.”
