Adult Day Activity Program

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Rockbridge Area Community Services Adult Day Activity Program to enhance the quality of life for adults with intellectual disabilities by providing comprehensive edification services. The Adult Day Activity Program services focus on developing programming that is unique to the needs and wishes of the participants. The program also ensures that the health and safety needs of all participants are met.

The Magnolia Center staff works with program participants in groups and individually in a structured environment. Activities include development of daily living skills, socialization, communication, community integration, weaving and a theater troupe. The emphasis is on knowing each program participant as an individual. Their specific needs and interests can then be enhanced, enriching their quality of life.

The Magnolia Center works collaboratively with other agency programs as well as other agencies. Approximately 1/3 of the program participants at the Magnolia Center participate in the Supported Employment Program and work in the community. All program participants receive case management services and 2/3 of the program participants are involved in Residential Services.

Hours of Operation:

The Magnolia Center is open Monday – Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Friday 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

The Magnolia Center Adult Day Activity Program is continuously evolving and changing to meet program participants' needs and to support their growth. During the past year the Magnolia Center’s weaving program has gone from one loom to four looms. Program participants have created many beautiful items including; scarves, tote bags, purses, and baby blankets. The weaving program recently hosted a very successful open house.

The Magnolia Center also houses the “Magnolia Players”. The Magnolia Players is the only theater program in Virginia comprised of adults with developmental disabilities. The Magnolia Players create and perform two productions each year. The performances are held in the spring and December. This year’s spring production of “How The West Was Lost” was a great success with the largest audience attendance!!!
