ADULT CLINICAL SERVICES |
 |
ADULT CLINICAL SERVICES provides substance abuse services, mental health services and services for those with both substance abuse and mental health issues, focusing on persons 18 and older and living in Rockbridge or Bath County, Lexington or Buena Vista. The ACS clinical staff is made up of professionals with masters’ degrees and licensed in their respective disciplines by the state of Virginia (LCPs, LCSWs and LPCs). Clinicians provide assessment and diagnoses as well as treatment and counseling and psychotherapy. Referrals are made within ACS, such as to the psychiatrist, when indicated, and referrals also are made to non-RACS professionals when necessary. Referrals are made to ACS by many sources such as families, doctors, courts, RASAP and others by calling ACCESS at 463-3141. Most insurances are accepted.
Adult Clinical Services sees clients for an intake session which involves a social history questionnaire and a clinical interview. Together, the client and the clinician talk about the presenting problem and possible courses of treatment. The ACS team reviews the case and a treatment plan is recommended. The clinician and the client then meet to finalize the treatment agreement and to start work on resolving the presenting problem. |

ADULT CLINICAL SERVICES PROGRAMS
SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES include assessments, individual or group therapy and the 16 week out-patient treatment program for court referred clients. There are specialized programs for women, for the dually diagnosed and for family members. Drug-screening, breathalyzer testing and auricular acupuncture are available. Referrals and admission to in-patient detoxification and/or rehabilitation facilities is provided when indicated. Aftercare is provided, including for those who might initiate their own in-patient treatment.
MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES is for persons experiencing mood problems such as Depression or Anxiety, for relationship problems, grief, trauma, or other problems of daily living beyond self-management. Mental Health services also are for persons with serious mental illness such as Schizophrenia and Bi-polar illness. Treatment is research-based and consistent with best practice models for the presenting problem or diagnosis. Individual, couples, family and group therapies are available. When appropriate, referrals are made to other RACS services such as psychiatry or case management or to other community service agencies. |

ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS:
ANGER MANAGEMENT is an open-ended 10 week, once a week evening program designed to help those with anger problems. It does not cure or eliminate anger: it helps participants own and recognize their anger, develop techniques and strategies for coping with it, and helps to reduce and control the severity and consequences of the anger.
DIALECTICAL BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (a cognitive behavioral group treatment approach) is offered to clients who meet the screening criteria done by their Therapist for consideration into the group.

 |
ADULT CLINICAL SERVICES develops and provides other specialized programs as indicated. ACS has run a Skills Program for those having trouble coping with relationships and managing their emotions. ACS has had Co-Dependent Therapy Groups as well as Substance Use Disorder Family Programs. ACS provides clinicians for the RACS Speakers Bureau.
When there is a need that we can meet but that can be better served by a group or structured program, ACS has the means to develop and facilitate it. |
