Free, ongoing support in the early years of parenting
The PEPStart program is a parent education program dedicated to the enrichment of the parent – child relationship. We believe that experiences in a child’s early years are critical to future success in school and life and that parents are their child’s first and most influential teachers. PEPStart provides families with important information regarding child development including developmentally appropriate activities as well as routinely administered developmental assessments. PEPStart also provides families with information regarding parenting including discipline and other family requested topics. PEPStart services are individually tailored to meet each individual family’s needs allowing parents to be involved in planning these services.
PEPStart also connects families to resources in the local community which can offer support. The program serves families with children ages 0 to age 5 and has a comprehensive prenatal segment as well. As needed, PEPStart often provides services to pregnant teens that may require extra support and guidance. Most families receive monthly home visits, which may include a toy lending program and developmental reading kits. Participation in the PEPStart program is voluntary and free of charge.
The program serves families in the Buena Vista, Lexington, and Rockbridge County areas.
